MEDIA OPPORTUNITY
LOUISIANA DERBY POST POSITION DRAW

When: Saturday, March 19, 2022 at 11:30 a.m. CT

Where: Fair Grounds Race Course & Slots paddock *

Who: Hosted by track announcer John G. Dooley with racing analysts Joe Kristufek and Kevin Kilroy and morning line odds maker Mike Diliberto.

Join us as we draw the post positions for the 109th running of the $1 million Twinspires.com Louisiana Derby (G2), to be run as part of a 13-race card on Saturday, March 26, 2022.

Why it’s important: Mandaloun, the 2021 Risen Star (G2) champ who finished sixth in the Louisiana Derby, was crowned as the winner of Kentucky Derby 147, and this year two-time Eclipse Award winning trainer Brad Cox is expected to send out the highly regarded and undefeated Zozos in Fair Grounds signature race.

With over 9,600 wins on his resume, Steve Asmussen recently became the leading trainer in the history of Thoroughbred racing in North America. He’s won just about every prestigious race, but to this point, the Run for the Roses has eluded him. That could change this year, as Epicenter, the likely Louisiana Derby favorite off his open length win in the Risen Star, continues his charge towards Louisville. He is owned by Winchell Thoroughbreds, who campaigned former Louisiana Derby winner Gun Runner, one of the richest Thoroughbreds of all-time.

Opportunity: Following the post position draw, the connections who are present will be made available for interviews.

* Should weather prohibit us from conducting the draw outside, the program will be moved to the fourth floor east end. If the location is moved, and advisory will be sent Saturday morning.
