Classy Medoro Ships In, Scores Marie G. Krantz Memorial Late
NEW ORLEANS (Jan. 17, 2025) – With a resume that includes multiple graded stakes placings, C R K Stable’s Medoro added another stakes title Saturday, as the California shipper ran down longshot Cupids Crush in the final strides of the $100,000 Marie G. Krantz Memorial at Fair Grounds Race Course & Slots.
Trained by Peter Eurton and ridden by Jose Ortiz, Medoro tracked midpack, tipped out and eventually overtook the 27-1 pacesetter Cupids Crush to win by three-quarters of a length, covering 1 1/16 miles on the turf in 1:42.17. Lucky Speech finished strong for third.
“It was a horse race in the end,” Ortiz said. “Cupids Crush kept digging in, but I think I had a very good trip. She was going very nice into the first turn. I was able to drop her into the rail, save a lot of ground, and when I asked her to go, she was there for me.”
Bet down to even money, Medoro paid $4.20, $3 and $2.60.
“This is a nice filly,” Eurton said. ”She’s got all those graded stakes placings on her resume, she got the job done here. She gives you everything she’s got. She’s never missed a check except for her last race, so you gotta love her.”
Though Medoro shipped in from California for the Krantz, Eurton is maintaining a presence on the Fair Grounds backside for the first time in his accomplished training career.
“This is our first year at Fair Grounds, and I think it’s really working out well. I mean, where else would you rather be than New Orleans? We have never traveled with Medoro, so we thought we’d test drive something new. We shipped for $100,000. It just seemed like a lot of fun. It was definitely worth it.”
The 5-year-old Honor Code mare now owns a career record of 13-6-3-3 with earnings of $563,100.
