Tears of Jupiter Wins New Year's Day Feature

Tears of Jupiter, owned by Media Thoroughbred Group and trained by Eric Heitzmann, benefited from a patient, late-charging ride by jockey Curt Bourque to win Friday’s $45,000 allowance feature at Fair Grounds, contested at about five and a half furlongs over a Stall-Wilson turf course rated “good.”

Finishing second a length behind the winner was another late runner – Gale Springer and Gabe Grossberg’s True Brew – who bested pace-pressing Freyja by a half-length at the wire.

Tears of Jupiter returned mutuels of $35.60, $13 and $7.80, toured the distance in 1:06.61 and increased her career earnings to $79,455 with her second win in 12 lifetime starts.

True Brew paid $5.20 and $3.40, and Freyja, who alternated for the early lead with splits of 23.02 and 47.99, returned $12.20 to show.

Racing resumes Saturday at Fair Grounds with an 11-race program headlined by the 37th renewal of the $60,000 Furl Sail Handicap. First post Saturday is 12:30 p.m.
