Louisiana-bred Sophomores Featured Saturday at FG

NEW ORLEANS, La. (February 24, 2009) - The 25th edition of the $60,000 Gentilly Stakes for 3-year-old Louisiana-breds and the seventh running of the $60,000 Sarah Lane's Oates Stakes for state-bred sophomore fillies share top billing on Saturday's 10-race program at Fair Grounds.

The Merrill Scherer-trained entry of Silent Pipe, an easy winner of his last start Feb. 9, and Shockin Blow, runner-up by a head in his last trip to the post Feb. 7, has been installed as the slight 3-1 choice in the Gentilly, to be run at about 1 1/16-miles over the Stall-Wilson turf course.  Brian Hernandez Jr. is named aboard both halves of the entry.

Opposing the Scherer coupling in the Gentilly are Milwaukee Miracle, Donnie Meche; Break Up, Robby Albarado; Lee City Slew, John Jacinto; Rew's Blues, Corey Lanerie; Smoothcideup, Jamie Theriot; Hear No Angel, Shaun Bridgmohan; and Dabbers Chief, James Graham.

In the Sarah Lane's Oates, Eclipse Award-winning trainer Steve Asmussen' filly Lightlightlight, owned by Heiligbrodt Racing Stable and coming off a runner-up finish in the Premier Star Stakes Feb. 7 at Delta Downs, is the 2-1 morning line choice in the field of 10. Shaun Bridgmohan gets the call.

Facing Lightlightlight in the Sarah Lane's Oates are Hazel Grove, Robby Albarado; Jetabug, Brian Hernandez Jr.; Key Lee, Jesse Campbell; Tiz Hoo, Pat Valenzuela; Tensas Palmyra,  Jamie Theriot;  Wanna Cuddle, Corey Lanerie; Sunday in the Bay, James Graham; Royal Twine, Donnie Meche; and Seven Seventythree, John Jacinto. Hazel Grove and Jetabug are coupled.

First post on Saturday, the midpoint of a short three-day week at Fair Grounds, is 12:30 p.m. CST.
