Kentucky Derby To Be Shown On Jazz Fest Big Screen

NEW ORLEANS, La. (May 1, 2008) - The largest crowd to watch the 134th running of the Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands will be the 150,000-plus expected Saturday at Churchill Downs, but the second-largest will likely be at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival presented by Shell at Fair Grounds.

The penultimate day of Jazz Fest - which features performances by Jimmy Buffett and the Coral Reefer Band, Diana Krall, Aaron Neville, The Dirty Dozen Brass Band and dozens of others - will also feature a live broadcast of the Derby on the big screen next to the Acura Stage, which showcases many of Jazz Fest's headline acts each day.

Post time for the Derby is 5:04 p.m. CDT - 25 minutes before Buffett begins his performance at the Acura Stage.

Seven of the 20 entrants in the Kentucky Derby raced at Fair Grounds this winter, led by Louisiana Derby winner Pyro, Lecomte Stakes winner Z Fortune and locally owned Recapturetheglory.

Wagering on the Kentucky Derby will not be available at Fair Grounds. To wager on the Derby, fans can visit one of the nine Fair Grounds OTB locations in southeast Louisiana. Advance wagering opens Friday morning.

Jazz Fest, which has been held each spring at Fair Grounds since 1972, runs through Sunday.

Fair Grounds Race Course & Slots, the nation's third-oldest Thoroughbred racing facility, has been in operation since 1872. Located in New Orleans, Fair Grounds is owned by Churchill Downs Incorporated (NASDAQ Global Select Market: CHDN); it also operates a slot-machine gaming facility and nine off-track betting parlors throughout southeast Louisiana. Fair Grounds' 137th season will run from Nov. 14, 2008, through March 29, 2009. Information about Fair Grounds can be found on the Internet at www.fairgroundsracecourse.com.
