Fair Grounds to Increase Purses for the Remainder of the 147th Racing Season

By Ryan Martin

As a result of stronger pari-mutuel handle as well as an increase in gaming revenue throughout the racing season, Fair Grounds Race Course & Slots has announced a purse increase for the 147th thoroughbred race meet ending on March 24, 2019.

For maiden special weight and allowance races (Louisiana-bred and open), purses will increase by $2,000 per race. Also, $1,000 per race will be added to all other categories.

“I am pleased to announce this purse increase for the final 32 days of the 147th racing season,” said Fair Grounds Race Course & Slots President Doug Shipley. “Our owners and trainers have once again come through to help us offer an attractive live racing product and our recent success in gaming operations is allowing us to raise our purses toward the end of another successful thoroughbred racing season and the 106th Louisiana Derby.”

The purse increase will cover the final 32 days of the meet, which concludes March 24.

Entries for the Thursday, February 7 program will be taken on January 31.
