Contender Analysis

By: James Scully (Brisnet Editorial)

FRIESAN FIRE is currently the king of New Orleans for Larry Jones as the well-bred colt exits consecutive wins in the Lecomte S. (G3) and Risen Star S. (G3) at Fair Grounds. The burly three-year-old is a bit headstrong at this stage of his career, but his tactical speed and toughness are what separate him from many of his foes and make him a legitimate Kentucky Derby (G1) prospect.

Owned by Vinery Stables and Fox Hill Farms, Friesan Fire won his career bow at Delaware Park and recorded a third in the Futurity S. (G2) at Belmont Park and a fourth in the Nashua S. (G3) at Aqueduct. The Kentucky-bred has really come on since stretching out to two turns this season, winning the one-mile Lecomte by 1 ½ lengths and the Risen Star by two lengths. He’s the one to beat on Saturday!

Pedigree Analysis

By: Tim Holland (Brisnet Editorial)

Friesan Fire. Owns a hugely impressive pedigree page being by A. P. Indy, whose offspring include Bernardini, Mineshaft and Rags To Riches, and out of a leading Southern Hemisphere family. Friesan Fire’s dam, Bollinger was a group one winner in Australia and is herself out of Australian Champion Two-Year-Old, Bint Marscay.
