Black Gold 5 Hit for $315,119!

One player held a lone perfect ticket in Thursday’s Black Gold 5, resulting in a jackpot, whole-pool payoff of $315,119.45 for the bettor’s 50-cent wager.

“Merry Christmas,” track announcer John G. Dooley said as the boxcar winning mutuels were posted.

The successful wager was placed in Las Vegas.

The winning horses, in order, starting in Race 5, were: Jilly From Philly ($7.20), Raised With Pride ($9.40), Shraded Edge ($47.40), Glamalert ($24.20) and Strong and Tough ($74.20).

The jackpot carryover had built up over 18 racing programs, including $35,982 bet into it today. The Black Gold 5 had been hit once before this season, on Nov. 25, the second day of the meet, when the return was $8,152.

The Black Gold 5 requires a bettor to hold the lone successful ticket with the winners of five consecutive races. On cards when there is no single-ticket winner, half of the pool is paid as consolation to tickets with the most correct and half of the pool goes to the carryover. The Black Gold 5 carries a $.50 minimum and starts on Race 5 every day.
