Zacaroid Wins Monday Feature
Scott Gaillot and Corale Richards’ Zacaroid prompted the pace briefly, gained the advantage entering the stretch and withstood rivals the rest of the way to win Monday’s $49,000 six furlong sprint restricted to accredited Louisiana-breds by two lengths under clever rating by jockey Richard Eramia.
Trained by Corale Richards, Zacaroid paid $11.80, $4.60 and $3.20, toured the distance in 1:12.16 and increased his career earnings to $145,685 while winning his fifth race in 17 lifetime starts.
Robert Orth and Wesley Hawley’s Leestown Gift finished second, returning $5.60 and $4.80, while a head farther back was Alston Pitzer Thoroughbred’s Canadianproduction, who paid $6.80
Angeline Boudreaux’ Mr. Skie’s Spirit set early fractions of 22.20 and 45.82 before tiring to seventh.
Racing resumes Friday at Fair Grounds with a nine-race program beginning at 1:10 p.m. and continues Saturday with its highlighted Road to the Derby program featuring six stakes races headed by the Grade III Lecomte Stakes as an early prep race for the Grade II Louisiana Derby March 27. Post time for Saturday’s gala afternoon of 13 races is 12:10 p.m.
