Woodbourne Wins Sunday at FG

NEW ORLEANS, La. (March 22, 2009) - Melnyk Racing Stables' Woodbourne, never far back, continued willingly late under a determined ride by jockey Jesse Campbell to best A. P. Answer by a half-length in Sunday's $46,000 allowance optional claiming turf feature at Fair Grounds.

Trained by Mark Casse, the Ontario-bred by Danzig toured the about 1 1/16-mile distance over the Stall-Wilson turf course in 1:48.24, increased his career earnings to $121,176 with his third win in 10 lifetime starts and returned mutuels of $10.60, $5.40 and $4.20.

A. P. Answer, who made or forced the pace in early splits of 26.27 and 52.17, could not withstand the winner in the late stages but gamely held the place, paying $6.20 and $4.

Terryhowieandjimmy finished third, a neck farther back, and returned $5 for the show.

Racing returns to Fair Grounds Friday for the final three days of the season with a nine-race program beginning at 12:35 p.m.
