Starlight Racing This Friday with The Mixed Nuts
Even though the last of nine live Thoroughbred races on Friday’s Starlight Racing program is set for just before 9 p.m., Fair Grounds Race Course & Slots announced today that headlining musical act The Mixed Nuts will keep the Clubhouse rocking for as much as two hours after the last race.
A later last call on the fourth floor is one of several enhancements put in place by track officials after a record-shattering turnout for January’s Starlight Racing. Among other changes:
- Expanded offerings from culinary partners Caribbean Spice, Messina’s and Taceaux Loceaux
- Additional bars throughout the property and additional roving beer hawkers
- Additional self-service terminals and “How to Wager” experts to better assist beginner bettors
- Additional parking areas previously restricted from public access open to guests arriving by car and increased numbers of parking lot attendants to help manage the flow of traffic
- Increased space allotted to valet parking
- Additional registration tables for charitable partners
“Our goal is to make sure every Starlight Racing is even better than the previous one,” said Fair Grounds Senior Director of Marketing Mark Conner. “The basic formula may stay the same – racing under the lights, live music, DJs, food and drink specials – but we’re constantly coming up with new ways to make each month a singular and memorable experience.”
Several popular features from past Starlight Racing events will be back this week, including a free iPad drawing for fans who “LIKE” Starlight Racing on Facebook at a special table in the Miller Beer Garden, as well as the “Bet or No Bet” contest that gives six lucky guests the chance to bet $250 of the house’s money on a single horse or walk away with $100. At January’s event, two “Bet or No Bet” winners walked away with $2,278 apiece after betting their $250 of Fair Grounds’ cash on an 8-1 shot named Da Blaz N Bells.
Friday’s Starlight Racing program begins with the first live race at 5 p.m. The Mixed Nuts will take to the fourth-floor Clubhouse stage at 6 p.m. Admission is $10 and includes access to both the Clubhouse and the trackside Miller Beer Garden. Grandstand admission is free. As always, Starlight Racing guests are asked to help make it a special night and “dress to impress.”
