Van Missiletoe Wins Saint Patrick's Day Feature

Van Missiletoe, owned by the Irish-for-a-day partnership of Hoedebeck, Ratkowski and Greenspan, won the featured $43,000 six-furlong allowance sprint at Fair Grounds by three lengths on the special St. Patrick’s Day Wednesday program.

Allowed to settle just off the pace, Van Missiletoe saved ground under jockey E.J. Perrodin, challenged when set down for the drive and drew off late. The winner, trained by Pat Mouton, returned mutuels of $37, $17.60 and $6.20, increased his lifetime earnings to $87,380 with his second victory in 17 career starts, and accomplished the distance in 1:11.50.

Full Stride Racing’s Diamonds R Better made the pace with splits of 23.13 and 47.06, could not stay with the winner but saved the place to pay $10.20 and $5 while finishing a head to the good of Louie Roussel III’s Seven Mile Bridge, who made a mild bid to gain the show spot and return $2.10.

Racing resumes Friday at Fair Grounds with the third of three Starlight Racing Programs with a special twilight first post time of 5 p.m.
