Tizaqueena Tallies Sunday at Fair Grounds
NEW ORLEANS, La. (February 8, 2009) - Darley Stable's Tizaqueena, runner-up in Fair Grounds' Tiffany Lass Stakes last year, continued her comeback with a victory in Sunday's $46,000 allowance feature for older fillies and mares at Fair Grounds.
With 2007-08 and current meet leading rider Jamie Theriot aboard, Tizaqueena alternated for the early lead - accomplished with splits of 25.66 and 50.68 over the firm Stall-Wilson turf course - before allowing the daughter of Tiznow to gradually draw clear late for a 1 3/4-length victory.
Tizaqueena, who returned from an 11-month layoff with a first-level allowance win in December, covered about one mile in 1:39.04.
Trained by Mike Stidham, Tizaqueena paid $7.80, $4.20 and $2.80 and increased her career earnings to $97,400 with her third lifetime victory from four career starts. Theriot has been aboard for all four starts.
Points of Grace finished second, returning $3.60 and $2.80, while Flaming Slew finished third, three-quarters of length farther back, and paid $3.20 to show.
There was one winning ticket in the Pick 6, which paid $35,498.40 for a $2 wager.
Racing resumes Monday at Fair Grounds with a 10-race program beginning at 12:30 p.m. CST.
