Normandy Shore Lands as FG Friday Longshot
NEW ORLEANS, La. (January 30, 2009) - April McCurry's Normandy Shore made the pace and continued willingly for a 1 3/4-length upset victory in Friday's $48,000 allowance optional claiming feature at Fair Grounds.
The winner, ridden by Jamie Theriot and trained by Ronny Werner, paid $43.40, $14 and $8.60. Normandy Shore accomplished the six furlongs in 1:10.25 after early splits of 22.09 and 45.71, and increased his career earnings to $71,280 with his fourth career win from 10 lifetime starts.
Carson's Legacy held on to finish second after prompting the pace, returning $5.40 and $4, while finishing a head in front of Spin Master, who paid $3.60.
Racing resumes Saturday at Fair Grounds with an 11-race program featuring the tradition-rich $60,000 Black Gold Stakes for 3-year-old sprinters on the turf. Post time for the first race is 12:30 p.m.
