Neighborhood Appreciation Day Jan. 17

Fair Grounds Race Course & Slots will show its love for the surrounding Gentilly, Bayou St. John and Mid-City areas with a family-friendly Neighborhood Appreciation Day during the races on Jan. 17. Residents with permanent addresses in the 70119 ZIP code will receive free admission to both the Grandstand and a special event tent along the rail, free valet parking, free programs, free food and soft drinks, free tip sheets and more.

“We want everyone in the area to know how much we care about this neighborhood,” Fair Grounds President Austin Miller said. “The people who live right around us include many of our best customers, our most ardent supporters and our most devoted employees. Fair Grounds belongs to all of them.”

Neighborhood Appreciation Day offers are good for up to four people from any single household. Qualified neighbors residing in 70119 will receive a mailer at their address before Jan. 17, redeemable for the giveaways, as well as a wristband for admission to the tent.

First post on Jan. 17 is 12:30 p.m. and Neighborhood Appreciation Day festivities begin one half-hour before the first race, at noon. The event continues throughout the afternoon, until shortly before the 11th and final race at about 5:15 p.m.
