Nadeshiko Wins Friday at FG

NEW ORLEANS, La. (March 27, 2009) - Larry Richardson's Nadeshiko rallied outside the pacemakers in the late stages to capture the $46,000 allowance optional claiming feature Friday at Fair Grounds.

The scheduled 5 1/2-furlong sprint for older fillies and mare was transferred from the turf to the main track after heavy rains the last two days.

Trained by Greg Foley and ridden by Gabriel Saez, Nadeshiko paid $11.80, $4.40 and $3.40. She increased her career earnings to $111,014 with her third win in 13 starts and covered the distance over a sloppy main track in 1:05.14.

Tora, always well placed, was three-quarters of a length behind the winner, paying $3 and $2.60. It was another 1 1/2 lengths back to Royal Diana, who returned $4.80 to show. Star Over Malibu was fourth after setting early splits of 22.06 and 46.19.

Louisiana Lagniappe Weekend presented by Miller begins Saturday, the penultimate day of the Fair Grounds season, with a 10-race program featuring four stakes for Louisiana-breds. First post on both Saturday and Sunday is 12:35 p.m. CDT.
