Mulvihill Named Communications and Pari-mutuel Marketing Manager

Jim Mulvihill, a New Orleans native, has been named Communications and Pari-mutuel Marketing Manager at Fair Grounds Race Course & Slots.

Mulvihill served as Lone Star Park at Grand Prairie’s Media Relations Associate for more than three years, including the Breeders’ Cup Meeting of 2004. He worked five Thoroughbred seasons at Lone Star overall and later edited the MEC Today handicapping newsletter for Lone Star Park’s parent company, Magna Entertainment Corporation.

“Jim brings to us a unique combination of horseracing knowledge and familiarity with New Orleans and its media landscape,” said Fair Grounds president Austin Miller. “Not only were we impressed by his work in racing, but he also had this track record of attracting younger patrons to art museums that fits well with our goals for bringing new audiences to the track. I’m looking forward to his new and fresh perspective on things.”

As a freelance writer, Mulvihill has contributed articles on racing to a number of outlets, including The Associated Press, Thoroughbred Times, The Texas Thoroughbred and The Saratoga Special. He spent nine racing seasons as a public handicapper in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

During the 2008-2009 Fair Grounds meeting, Mulvihill published the on-track Black Gold tip sheet and contributed a blog and daily Value Plays to fairgroundsracecourse.com.

Mulvihill had been Director of Communications and Marketing at the New Orleans Museum of Art since early 2008. Prior to that he was Director of Communications and Marketing at the Contemporary Arts Museum Houston.

Mulvihill is a graduate of Emerson College and the University of Arizona’s Race Track Industry Program. He lives in the Broadmoor neighborhood with his wife, Miranda Lash, a museum curator.
