Louisiana Derby Day Fans Invited to 'Go Red'
NEW ORLEANS, La (March 1, 2009) - What is likely to be the largest crowd of Fair Grounds' 137th season figures to have a red tint to it.
"Go Red at the Derby" is the promotional effort tied to Louisiana Derby Day on March 14. "Go Red" will promote healthy heart awareness with interactive booths for fans in attendance.
A tent on Fair Grounds' track apron will feature informational and promotional activities by area businesses. Fans are encouraged to include red in their wardrobe that day.
A percentage of proceeds from vendors participating in "Go Red at the Derby" will benefit the American Heart Association's Go Red for Women campaign, which funds research into the causes, treatment and diagnosis of heart disease. The association will also have a booth at Fair Grounds that afternoon.
Also on tap as part of "Go Red at the Derby" are Fair Grounds' annual Red Beans and Rice Cook-Off and a ladies' hat contest.
Budweiser is the presenting sponsor of Louisiana Derby Day. Other confirmed partners who will participate in "Go Red at the Derby" include Backstreet Gifts, Private Collections, Plethora, Impressions and The Kupcake Factory.
"The concept of ‘Go Red' has provided a means to support an extremely important and worthwhile health cause that has touched many worthy recipients," said Fair Grounds director of marketing Mark A. Conner. " ‘Go Red at the Derby' is our way to continue supporting the efforts of the American Heart Association and we are proud to have the 96th Louisiana Derby and the many local business partners that are participating together to continue those efforts."
