Heart Ashley Wins Monday at Fair Grounds
NEW ORLEANS, La. (February 9, 2009) - Zayat Stables' Heart Ashley gained the advantage inside the eighth pole and drew off steadily for a 3 1/4-length victory in Monday's featured $44,000 allowance sprint for 3-year-old fillies at Fair Grounds.
The winner, trained by Steve Asmussen and ridden by Shaun Bridgmohan, paid $6, $3.60 and $2.60, increased her career earnings to $70,816 with her second victory in four starts and covered the six furlongs in 1:11.23.
Time Well Spent finished second, returning $6.20 and $3.20, while a half-length in front of Bhangaloo Ruby, who paid $2.20.
Also Monday, Louisiana-bred filly Dancing Rebecca remained unbeaten as she captured an allowance optional claiming sprint. The Bret Calhoun trainee, owned by Narny and Hill LLP and ridden by Carlos Gonzalez, is now 4-for-4 lifetime. Dancing Rebecca paid $3 to win and covered the six furlongs in 1:11.42.
Racing resumes Thursday at Fair Grounds with a 10-race program beginning at 12:30 p.m.
