Get Rich Quick Wins Friday's FG Feature
NEW ORLEANS, La. (December 26, 2008) - Pin Oak Stable's Get Rich Quick gained the advantage approaching the top of the stretch and drew off late to win Friday's $46,000 allowance optional claiming feature at Fair Grounds.
The winner, ridden by Miguel Mena and trained by Malcolm Pierce, paid $15.40, $8.20 and $5.80. He covered about 1 1/16 miles over a "firm" Stall-Wilson turf course in 1:45.56 and increased his earnings to $125,691 with his third victory in 15 career starts.
Cape San Blas was 2 3/4 lengths back in second, returning $9.60 and $7, while Matzoh Toga paid $12.20 after finishing third, another 3 1/4 lengths farther back in the field of nine older horses.
Pace-setting Woodbourne, who set early fractions of :24.72 and :50.15, tired from that effort and finished seventh.
Racing resumes Saturday at Fair Grounds with a 10-race program, headlined by the $60,000 Furl Sail Handicap for fillies and mares on the turf. First post is 12:30 p.m. CST.
