Fair Grounds Unveils Grand Opening Original Painting

NEW ORLEANS, La (November 14, 2008) - Thomas "Tuna" Seither is known in New Orleans for his colorful posters for such prestigious sporting events as the Crescent City Classic, Super Bowl, Sugar Bowl, Grand Isle Tarpon Rodeo and local PGA Golf tournaments. Today at the grand opening of the new slots facility and the start of the 137th racing season at Fair Grounds Race Course & Slots, he unveiled the painting that was commissioned by Fair Grounds to celebrate the monumental day.

The limited edition signed print, only 1,500 printed, will be for sale starting tomorrow in Fair Grounds' Paddock Gift Shop for $69.

Everyone who knows Tuna, knows that he is a long time fan of the Fair Grounds; he was even supposed to get married at the property in 1994. However, the 1993 fire caused forced him and his fiancée to relocate their wedding.  The Fair Grounds selected Seither because of his love of sports, use of color, original style and of course his love of the Fair Grounds.

"We couldn't have picked a better person to work with," said Mark A. Conner, director of marketing of the Fair Grounds.  "Tuna is a fan of the Fair Grounds and his love of the track and New Orleans is displayed through his work."

Seither is a New Orleans native, who grew up in Lakeview and graduated from the University of Southwestern Louisiana (now the University of Louisiana-Lafayette) with a bachelor of fine arts degree in 1989.  He is known for his use of color and his unique two part process of reverse image on plexiglas and secondary images underneath. Seither is the only artist to have been commissioned by the Crescent City Classic six times.
