Fair Grounds Names Jabelmann Track Superintendent

NEW ORLEANS, La. (December 29, 2008) - Brian Jabelmann, a 29-year veteran of racing surfaces who has served as track superintendent at Louisiana Downs the last two seasons, has been named to the same post at Fair Grounds.

Jabelmann will begin his new position on Wednesday.

In two years at Louisiana Downs, Jabelmann managed both the dirt and turf surfaces. His work allowed the track to offer a record number of turf races in 2008.

Jabelmann's previous experience was in Canada, including three years as director of racing surfaces at Woodbine. He has also served as manager at Woodbine's sister property, Mohawk Racetrack, in 2003.

Fair Grounds Race Course & Slots, the nation's third-oldest Thoroughbred racing facility, has been in operation since 1872. Located in New Orleans, Fair Grounds is owned by Churchill Downs Incorporated (NASDAQ Global Select Market: CHDN); it also operates a slot-machine gaming facility and nine off-track betting parlors throughout southeast Louisiana. Fair Grounds' 137th Thoroughbred season will run from Nov. 14, 2008, through March 29, 2009, and its inaugural Quarter Horse meet was conducted from Aug. 20-24, 2008.
