Angelonmyshoulder Takes Off in Friday Feature

Louis Smith’s Angelonmyshoulder took command shortly after the start and never relinquished the lead thereafter when winning Friday’s featured event at Fair Grounds by 1 3/4-lengths.

The race was an optional claiming event taken off the turf and run on the main track at one mile and 40 yards and offered a $49,000 purse.

Angelonmyshoulder, ridden by Richard Eramia, who was posting his second win on the program, paid $12.20, $4.20 and $2.60, and set early fractions of 24.14 and 47.91 before posting a final time of 1:40.33. The 5-year-old gelding increased his career earnings to $163,408 with his fifth victory in 23 lifetime starts.

Al and Bill Ulwelling’s Richland Creek held second, returning $6.60 and $2.80 while finishing 3 3/4-lengths to the good of Bonnie Heath Farm’s Mad Flatter, who paid $3.20 to show.

Racing resumes Saturday at Fair Grounds with an 11-race program beginning at 12:30 p.m.
