Abbey Resigns As Fair Grounds Director Of Racing
NEW ORLEANS, La. (June 11, 2008) - Sam Abbey has resigned as director of racing and racing secretary at Fair Grounds, track president Randy Soth announced Wednesday.
Abbey had served in the dual capacity for the past two seasons.
"Sam expressed a desire to be able to remain closer to his mid-Atlantic home base," said Soth. "We appreciate his service and wish him well in his future endeavors."
Soth said the search for Abbey's successor will begin immediately.
Fair Grounds Race Course & Slots, the nation's third-oldest Thoroughbred racing facility, has been in operation since 1872. Located in New Orleans, Fair Grounds is owned by Churchill Downs Incorporated (NASDAQ Global Select Market: CHDN); it also operates a slot-machine gaming facility and nine off-track betting parlors throughout southeast Louisiana.
