NEW ORLEANS (Friday, March 29, 2013) – Richard Lister’s Queen of the Waves, allowed to settle, commenced a rally on the outside when set down for the drive and drew clear late for a 2 3/4-length tally in Friday’s $47,000 allowance feature for older fillies and mares over a firm Stall-Wilson Turf Course at Fair Grounds Race Course & Slots.

Ridden by Rosie Napravnik, the Malcolm Pierce trainee returned mutuels of $7.60, $3.80 and $3.80 again, toured the about one-mile distance in 1:36.72 and increased her earnings to $83,975 with her second victory from seven lifetime starts.

For Napravnik, it was her fourth winner on the card.

Richard Maynard’s Annabird, void of early foot, found best stride late to be clearly second best, paying $13 and $9.60 while finishing three lengths to the good of Midwest Thoroughbreds’ Cat Bells, who returned $4.60.

Agave Racing Stable’s Day of Litany made the early pace with splits of 23.28 and 47.10 before giving way in mid-stretch.

Racing resumes Saturday at Fair Grounds with an expanded 13-race Louisiana Derby Day program featuring seven stakes races – four of which are Grade II offerings.
