NEW ORLEANS (Sunday, March 24, 2013) – Ed Wright et al.’s Another Gear, allowed to settle early, rallied strongly when set down for the drive and was up to best Steve Asmussen’s Mini Mine Mo by a nose in Sunday’s featured $47,000 allowance and $17,500 optional claiming event at Fair Grounds Race Course & Slots.

Ridden by James Graham and trained by Bernie Flint, Another Gear returned mutuels of $8.60 $3.40 and $2.40, toured the mile and 70-yard distance in 1:44.14 and increased his career earnings to $43,818 with his second win in eight lifetime starts.

Mine Mine Mo, never far back, could not stay with the winner in the last jump but gamely held the place, paying $3 and $2.40 while finishing a head in front of Bethel Road Syndicate and Alice Cohn’s Purgenality, who returned $3.40 in the show position.

Robert Rockwell’s Bigin set early splits of 23.76 and 47.46 before weakening late.

Racing resumes Wednesday with a nine-race program beginning at 1 p.m. before the 2012-2013 Fair Grounds season comes to a close March 31.
