Achaemenes Rules in Friday Feature

NEW ORLEANS (Friday, March 22, 2013) – Starlight Racing’s Achaemenes, away alertly and quickly in command, made the pace in Friday’s $49,000 allowance and $40,000 optional claiming feature over the Stall-Wilson Turf Course at Fair Grounds Race Course & Slots, lost the lead briefly in upper stretch but re-broke to be best by three-quarters of a length at the wire.
Trained by Doug Matthews and ridden by Shaun Bridgmohan,the winner returned mutuels of $14, $4.80 and $3.60, toured the about one-mile distance over the firm local lawn in 1:37.64 after setting early splits of 24.96 and 48.74 and increased his career earnings to $157,920 with his fifth victory from 13 lifetime starts.
Ken and Sarah Ramsey’s odds-on favorite Sneaky Kitten pressed the pace of the winner most of the way, challenged for command at the top of the stretch but could not sustain the bid. He paid $2.80 and $2.10, while Louie Roussel III’s Major Gain finished third, 1 3/4-lengths farther back at returned $3.60 for the show.
Racing resumes Saturday at Fair Grounds with an 11-race program beginning at 1 p.m.
