NEW ORLEANS (Thursday, March 14, 2013) – Spendthrift Farm’s Treasured Up, unhurried early, rallied boldly on the extreme outside in the late stages of Thursday’s $49,000 allowance and $40,000 optional claiming event over the Stall-Wilson Turf Course at Fair Grounds Race Course & Slots and was up to be best by a neck at the wire.

Ridden by Rosie Napravnik, who is all but assured of her third straight riding crown at the Crescent City oval, the Al Stall Jr.-trained Treasured Up was making her first start of the year after being unplaced in the Grade I Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup at Keeneland last Oct. 13.

Backed down to even-money favoritism by the fans, Treasured Up returned mutuels of $4, $3 and $2.10, toured the distance in 1:38.50 over the local lawn rated “good” and increased her career earnings to $126,133 with her third win in 10 lifetime starts.

Although unable to match the winner in the in the final strides, Cosmic Hoof Prints’ North by Northlite was clearly second best, paying $8 and $5.60 while finishing a length and a half in front of TEC Racing’s Almira Fawn, who returned $3 for the show.

Racing resumes Friday at Fair Grounds for the final Starlight Racing program of the season featuring 10 races and a special late first post time of 5 p.m.
