Yonaguska Storm Wins on 'Starlight' Card
NEW ORLEANS (Friday, March 08, 2013) – Keith Plaisance’s odds-on favorite Yonaguska Storm, allowed to settle behind Maggi Moss’s Herbal Prospector early, rallied strongly to challenge for command when set down for the drive and drew off late for a 2 1/2-length score in Friday’s Starlight Racing $47,000 allowance and $17,500 optional claiming sprint for older horses at Fair Grounds Race Course & Slots.
Trained by Eddie Johnston and ridden by John Jacinto, the Yonaguska gelding returned mutuels of $3.20, $2.20 and $2.10, accomplished the six-furlong distance in 1:10.20 and increased his career earnings to $124,400 with his fifth win in eight lifetime starts.
Although no match for the winner, Herbal Prospector continued willingly after setting early fractions of 22.60 and 46.06 to be clearly second best, paying $3 and $2.80 while finishing 1 1/4-lengths in front of Robert Rockwell’s Bigin who returned $5.40 for in the third spot.
Racing resumes Saturday at Fair Grounds with an 11-race program beginning at 1 p.m.
