NEW ORLEANS (Sunday, March 3, 2013) – Barnett Stables’ Boss Barney’s Babe, unhurried early, rallied strongly outside the leaders when set down for the drive and drew off late for a four-length score in Sunday’s $47,000 allowance and $50,000 optional claiming sprint for 3-year-old fillies at Fair Grounds Race Course & Slots.

Trained by Bret Calhoun and ridden by Leandro Goncalves, the daughter of Street Boss returned mutuels of $16.20, $6 and $2.80, accomplished the six-furlong distance in 1:11.22 and increased her career earnings to $65,960 with her second win in seven lifetime starts.

Melnyk Racing Stables’ Leigh Court finished second paying $4.20 and $2.60 while a neck in front of Wahoo Stable and Brereton Jones’s odds-on favorite Divine Happiness, who returned $2.20 to show after suffering from a troubled trip that began when she was pinched back at the break and continued when she lacked running room along the rail most of the way.

Burr Travis’s Givmethreestepsmr and Agave Racing Stable’s In Step Dancer alternated for the early lead with splits of 21.86 and 46.30 before tiring.

Racing resumes Wednesday at Fair Grounds with a nine-race program beginning at 1 p.m.
