Wits End Wins Turf Feature Thursday

NEW ORLEANS (Thursday, February 21, 2013) – Todd Dick’s Wits End, away alertly and always well placed, took clear command approaching the lane and held sway in the late stages to hold Big Chief Racing’s Congo Cat safe by 1 1/2-lengths in Thursday’s $41,000 allowance and $12,500 optional claiming race at about one mile over a Stall-Wilson Turf Course rated good.

Ridden by Brian Hernandez Jr.,the Steven Duke trainee returned mutuels of $29.40, $11 and $7.40, toured the distance in 1:40.56 and increased his career earnings to $96,384 with his fourth victory in 21 lifetime starts.

Congo Cat found best stride late to be clearly second best, paying `$4.60 and $3.40 while finishing 1 1/2-lengths in front of Antrim Oaks’ Irish Confidant, who returned $8.80 to show.

Racing resumes Friday at Fair Grounds with the fourth Starlight Racing Program of the season, featuring 10 races and a special first race post time of 5 p.m.
