NEW ORLEANS (Sunday, February 17, 2013) – Stone Farm’s Extravaganza, away alertly but unhurried early, launched a belated bid outside rivals in the final furlong and was up to be win Sunday’s $53,000 allowance sprint over a Stall-Wilson Turf Course rated soft by 1 1/4-lengths.

Sunday’s grass sprint was designed as a prep for the upcoming $75,000 Happy Ticket Stakes for older fillies and mares on March 16.

Extravaganza, trained by Mike Stidham and ridden by Richard Eramia, returned mutuels of $15, $4.80 and $3.80, accomplished the about five and a half furlongs in 1:04.90 and increased her career earnings to $132,600 with her fourth win in 11 lifetime starts.

Frank Ready’s Palazzo Babe, just behind the early leaders, took command in mid-stretch, could not withstand the winner late but was clearly second best, paying $2.80 and $2.10 as the odds-on choice of the fans while finishing 1 3/4-lengths in front of Jerry Namy’s Storm’s Promise, who returned $3.40 to show.

Storm’s Promise had set early fractions of 21.90 and 46.42 before weakening.

Racing resumes Monday at Fair Grounds with a special nine-race Presidents; Day holiday program with a first post time of 1 p.m.
