NEW ORLEANS (Thursday, February 14, 2013) – Bryant Prentice III’s Eugene’s Moment, always with the leaders, drew off briefly in mid-stretch and then withstood the late surge of Glen Warren’s Joyce’s Rebel to win Thursday’s $45,000 allowance and $40,000 optional claiming sprint feature by a nose.

Ridden by Leandro Goncalves and trained by Steve Ingram, the winner returned mutuels of $11.40, $4 and $3.20, toured the 5 1/2-furlongs in the race taken off the turf and run on the main track in 1:05.06 and increased his career earnings to $163,554 with his eighth win from 20 lifetime starts.

Joyce Rebel’s late surge to be easily second best in front of Moran Racing Stable’s Gustav Bay by 3 1/2-lengths at the wire allowed for mutuels of $2.60 and $2.10 while the latter paid $3.40 to show.

Racing resumes Friday at Fair Grounds with a 10-race program beginning at 1 p.m.
