Fontanne Wins Starlight Feature

NEW ORLEANS (Friday, January 18, 2013) – Courtlandt Farms’ Fontanne, allowed to settle just behind the early leaders, came up to challenge for command at the furlong grounds and drew off the rest of the way for a five-length tally in Friday evening’s Starlight Racing feature at Fair Grounds.

Trained byDavid Carroll and ridden by Leandro Goncalves, Fontanne returned mutuels of $20.20, $7.80 and $2..80, toured the six furlongs in 1:11.18 and increased his career earnings to $49,830 with his second win from six lifetime starts in the $47,000 allowance and optional $17,500 optional claiming sprint.

Helina Warren’s Divine Providence made the pace with early splits of 22.54 and 46.72, could not stay with the winner after the eighth pole but gamely held the place, finishing three-quarters of a length to the good of Vinery Stables’ Barbados Beauty.

Divine Providence paid $2.80 and $2.10 and Barbados Beauty returned $2.60 to show.

Racing resumes Saturday at Fair Grounds with its expanded 13-race Road to the Derby Day program featuring three stakes and a special early post time of 12:30 p.m.
