NEW ORLEANS (Thursday, January 17, 2013) – Tenth Street Stables’ Cool Street, allowed to settle early, launched a bold bid in the final furlong to best favored Gospel Lesson, owned by Sprinkle, Parrish and Christie, by a neck in the last strides of Thursday’s $49,000 allowance and optional $40,000 claiming feature at Fair Grounds.

Ridden by Miguel Mena and trained by Bernie Flint, the 4-year-old son of Street Cry returned mutuels of $7, $3.60 and $3, accomplished the mile and 70 yard-distance in 1:43.98 and increased his career earnings to $89,981 with his third victory in 10 lifetime starts.

Gospel Lesson pressed the early pace, could not withstand the winner late but gamely held the place, finishing a nose to the good of Blushi Stable and Summergrove Farm’s Street Serenade, who set early splits of 24.94 and 49.42 before weakening late.

Gospel Lesson paid $3.40 and $2.40 and Street Serenade returned $3.60 to show.

Racing resumes Friday at Fair Grounds with the second Starlight Racing program of the season with a first post time of 5 p.m. for the 10-race card.
