NEW ORLEANS (Sunday, December 23, 2012) – Vincent G. Sprinkle, Mike Parrish and George & Lee Christie’s Gospel Lesson pressed the pace all the way around in Sunday’s $49,000 allowance/$40,000 claiming feature at Fair Grounds Race Course & Slots before getting up in the final strides to win by a neck over a game Tycoon, owned by Hoosier Daddy’s Stable.

Ridden by leading jockey Rosie Napravnik for leading trainer Bret Calhoun, Gospel Lesson completed the one mile and 70-yard distance in 1:44.40 over a main track rated “fast.” With his seventh win in 29 starts, the 4-year-old Kentucky-bred raised his career earnings to $183,733. He returned $10.60, $5.60 and $4.60.

Tycoon – who set early fractions of 23.48 and 47.50 – returned $9.20 and $6.40, while Raut LLC’s fast-closing third-place finisher Macho Bull paid $4.80 to show.
