Hamiltonian Holds On in Sunday Feature

NEW ORLEANS (Sunday, December 16, 2012) – Jones-Lyster Partnership’s Hamiltonian made the pace and continued with good courage throughout the stretch run to score by three-quarters of a length in Sunday’s Fair Grounds feature, a six-furlong allowance $40,000 optional claiming sprint that carried a purse of $49,000.

Ridden by C. J. McMahon and trained by Larry Jones, who was saddling his second winner of the afternoon, Hamiltonian set early fractions of 22.22 and 45.66 before accomplishing the three-quarters in 1:10.22. The son of Bellamy Road returned mutuels of $18.60, $8.40 and $5 and increased his career earnings to $106,770 with his third win from eight lifetime starts.

Maggi Moss’s Warning Song pressed the pace of the winner, could not get by that one but was easily second best, finishing three lengths to the good of Two Dimes Stable’s Pisgah Station.Warning Song paid $5.20 and $3.40, while Pisgah Station returned $5.80 to show.

Although Jones had two wins for the day, the training star of the afternoon was defending trainer champion Steve Asmussen,who posed in the winner’s circle three times on the 10-race program

Racing resumes Wednesday at Fair Grounds for the first Wednesday program of the season with a 1 p.m. first post for the nine-race card.
