Calhoun One-Two in 3YO Feature

Gary and Mary West Stables’ entry of Fire Alarm andTiz Moe both overcame sluggish beginnings to finish first and second respectively – a neck apart – in Friday’s $49,000 allowance and $50,000 optional claiming Fair Grounds feature for 3-year-olds at a mile and 70 yards.

The winning Fire Alarm, ridden by Miguel Mena, and runner-up Tiz Moe, with Rosie Napravnik in the irons, are both trained by Bret Calhoun and returned mutuels of $3.40, $3.80 and $2.20 as the odds-on choice of the Fair Grounds fans.

Fire Alarm toured the distance in 1:43.71 and increased his career earnings to $68,692 with his second win in five lifetime starts.

Mutual Fun Stable and Ken Mahler’s Sky Alert finished third, 4 1/2-lengths farther back and paid $5.40 in the show position.

Gus King’s M One fired through early fractions of 23.41 and 47.25 before weakening in the late stages.

Racing resumes Saturday at Fair Grounds with a 10-race program beginning at 12:40 p.m.
