Patriots Toast, Ol Time Preacher Man Share Stakes Spotlight Saturday At Fair Grounds

Ana L Alvidrez's Patriots Toast avenged her defeat in the July 12 Flashy Hemp Stakes at Delta Downs with a decisive victory in Saturday's $60,000 Audubon Stakes at Fair Grounds Race Course & Slots. Ridden by Raul Ramirez for trainer Martin Trejo, Patriots Toast earned her tenth lifetime win and completed the 350-yard distance in 17.445 seconds, returning $7.60 to win. Shesa Dashingromance finished second in front of The Game Cartel who led early and stayed on for third.

A race later, T M Ranch's Ol Time Preacher Man tallied in the $60,000 Treme Stakes. Seventh as the favorite last time out in the Delta Downs Louisiana-bred Derby, Ol Time Preacher Man turned the tables on Kool Design, who had upset that race at Delta at odds of 40-1. Finishing the 350-yard trip in 17.435 seconds, Ol Time Preacher man was ridden to his fourth lifetime victory by jockey Patrick Watson for trainer Kenny Roberts, returning $11.20. Kool Design finished second, with Jess Good Lookin finishing in a dead-heat for third with 9-5 post-time favorite Im Jess Blue.

Earlier in the night, fans in attendance were treated to exotic animal races including zebras and ostriches. The animals were named via fan submissions on the Fair Grounds Facebook page. Jake Pierce piloted the winning zebra, Blurred Lines, and Antonio Alberto rode Chive favorite - Engelbird Humperbeak - to victory in the ostrich race.
