141st Thoroughbred Racing Season Honors: Delaunay Named Horse of the Meeting

NEW ORLEANS (Thursday, April 25, 2013) – Maggi Moss’s Delaunay, who swept all three of the major stakes for older sprinters, was named Horse of the Meeting for the 141st Thoroughbred Racing Season at Fair Grounds Race Course & Slots. Delaunay’s perfect record for the meet included wins in the $100,000 Thanksgiving Handicap, the $75,000 F.W. Gaudin Memorial Stakes and the $150,000 Duncan F. Kenner Stakes. His final time of 1:08.32 in the Kenner was the fastest six furlongs run at Fair Grounds since 2002.

Horse of the Meet and divisional honors were determined by a vote of media and racing officials.

Trained by Tom Amoss, the 6-year-old gelding Delaunay has been working steadily in Louisville, Ky., for his probable next start in the $400,000 Churchill Downs (GII) at seven furlongs on Kentucky Derby Day. Delaunay is the first sprinter to win Horse of the Meeting at Fair Grounds since the filly Hallowed Dreams earned that honor at the 2000-2001 stand.
