Louisiana Derby Infield Festival
For the first time since the 1930s the Fair Grounds will open its infield on Louisiana Derby Day. The inaugural "Infield Festival" will be headlined by Cowboy Mouth and will also include Flow Tribe and a food truck festival. The day's racing will be highlighted by Fair Grounds' signature race, the $1 Million Louisiana Derby for 3-year-old Kentucky Derby hopefuls. For more information visit FGNO.com/LouisianaDerby.
The nation's top older horses will be competing in the Grade II New Orleans Handicap for $400,000. Last season, Windy Hill Farms' Nate's Mineshaft capped off an amazing meet with a win in the New Orleans Handicap with jockey Jesse Campbell aboard.
The Grade II Mervin H. Muniz Jr. Handicap features the game's top turf stars as they race for $400,000 on the Stall-Wilson Turf Course. Mary and Gary West's Casino Host invaded from Florida to capture last year's running.
The Grade II $500,000 Fair Grounds Oaks is the premiere prep race for fillies on the path to the Kentucky Oaks. The Fair Grounds Oaks has produced numerous Kentucky Oaks winners including Tiffany Lass, Blushing K.D., Silverbulletday, Ashado, Summerly, Proud Spell, Rachel Alexandra and the 2012 winner Believe You Can.
