Using Brisnet Run Styles

One of the most important chores of a handicapper is to figure out how the race is going to unfold and which horses are likely to be at an advantage or disadvantage depending on the flow of the race. A quick and easy method of picturing how a race is going to be run can be found by looking at the Brisnet Ultimate Race Summary. A few examples are found in Thursday's card at Churchill.

Race 2. In this five and a half furlong claiming event a quick glance at the Ultimate Race Summary reveals that six of the field have Run Styles of "E" (need the lead) or "E/P" (early/presser). The remaining three horses are allocated "S". Any one of this trio of #3 STRIPED FLAG (ML 10/1), ALEX'S CAT (6/1) and #8 SILKY KITTY (5/1) could offer value and should be looked at closely.

Race 5. Similar to race 2, this five furlong claimer on the turf course looks loaded with speed and could set up for an off the pace type runner. Indeed no less than seven of the horses entered have Run Styles of "E". Once again three runners look like they will benefit from the way the race unfolds. They are #5 GIRL BAR (5/2), #7 MOON NISTLE (8/1) and #10 HONOR IN PEACE (4/1).

Race 9. In the feature, which is a five furlong optional claimer, several of the runners have Run Styles of "E/P" but just one has an "E". This is the favorite #5 LIBOR LADY (2/1) whose superior "E1" and "E2" Pace Ratings confirm that she may be a good bet to take the lead early and wire this field.

Race 10. In the finale, a six furlong claimer, there are just two runners that are designated "E" type runners. They are #7 CLASSIC WAGER (4/1) and #4 LOXACHATCHEE (10/1). Both should be looked at closely but Classic Wager has better Pace Ratings and may be the "speed of the speed".
