Stall, Calhoun Honored by City for BC Wins
Fair Grounds trainers Al Stall Jr and Bret Calhoun, who both own homes in Orleans Parish, were honored by the City of New Orleans on Saturday for their wins in the Breeders' Cup World Championships last month. Stall trained Blame to victory in the Breeders' Cup Classic, the richest race in North America, and Calhoun trained a pair of winners in the Championships -- Dubai Majesty in the Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Sprint and Chamberlain Bridge in the Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint.
Deputy Mayor Ann Duplessis presented proclamations to both trainers on behalf of Mayor Mitch Landrieu in a a ceremony held in the Fair Grounds Stakes Room. Other speakers included Fair Grounds President Tim Bryant and Sandra Salmen of Fair Grounds Horsemen's Relations.
Stall was joined by assitant trainer Pam Fitzgerald, wife Nicole, and young children Al and Greta.
Calhoun was joined by assistant trainer Dennis "Peaches" Geier.
