Race 8-Lassie
We wouldn't haver minded a longer price in the one race we spread the most in, but who are we to complain about having the fourth choice in the win pool to kick off the Pick Four?
In a mild upset, Master Link fulfilled the promise of her dominant debut to win gate-to-wire in 1:11 3/5. The bettors obviously forgave her for finishing third as a heavy favorite in the slop in an entry-level allowance on opening day. She showed speed in that one and opened up a four-length lead only to falter in deep stretch. It's easy to look at a race like that and come to the conclusion that a talented filly just didn't take to the surface and used up too much energy struggling with it.
Our little Pick Four ticket is done but we're still alive with the original one. Hitting with the fourth choice is a great way to kick it off.
