Not much to be gleaned fro the first stakes of the day, a starter handicap that is really a stakes event in name only. Mr. Porter poured it on in the stretch and won by 12.

Today's live blog won't begin before the first race, as I said yesterday. I'll start it up shortly before the first Thoroughbred race, which is Race 4, set for 1:53 p.m. CT.

I'll be blogging live all day Saturday from the Fair Grounds press box for Louisiana Champions Day, beginning shortly before Race 1 and continuing through all 11 stakes races.

Today's 50-cent Pick Four is a little more expensive than usual, but it seemed worth it to use every horse in the feature.
