Brisnet Nuggets for Opening Day at Calder
The long-range forecast shows only a 10% chance of rain for opening day, Friday at Calder, so there is an excellent chance that conditions will be fast and firm for the 10-race card.
In going through the Ultimate Past Performances for Friday, not much jumped out early in the card. COVE STAR in race two owns a strong 9-point edge on the BRIS Prime Power number but has yet to break his maiden in 12 starts to date. and has never hit the board at Calder. We'll keep looking.
In race four STAR TRACER can be forgiven her last race, a 10th place finish in her grass debut. She switches back to the dirt and reunites with Nunez, who has ridden her well and is an 18% winner over the past year when riding for Larry Pilotti. Another interesting jockey/trainer combo pops up on JAZZ HER UP. Edilberto Dominguez, a 3% jockey, has won 5 of his last 11 mounts for the Mikhalides barn. She looks overmatched but that is the type of stat on a longshot that one must keep an eye out for.
The Ultimate PP race summary shows race five, if it remains on the grass, as possibly the most competitive race on the card. Good race to spread for multi-race wagers.
Two other strong Prime Power advantage runners show up in races 6 and 7, respectively. INTENSE ELVIRA is 8 points superior to her next rival in race 6, and AWESOME ALEXANDRA is 11 points best in race 7. Click here to learn more about Prime Power.
In this Brisnet blog we will also be doing updates that cover Arlington Park and Churchill Downs races. Feel free to pass along suggestions on what you would like to see in this blog!
CONGRATS BOB BAFFERT
Brisnet.com would like to congratulate trainer Bob Baffert on his nomination to the National Museum of Racing's Hall of Fame. The 3-time Kentucky Derby winner (and who knows, maybe four!) is a big supporter of the BRIS racing and pedigree products.
He was elected along with Janet Elliot, jockey Eddie Maple and the horses Ben Nevis II, Silverbulletday and Tiznow. The Class of 2009 will be inducted on Friday, August 14 in Saratoga Springs in a ceremony at 10:30 a.m. at the Fasig-Tipton sales pavilion.
