Got some time here before the stakes begin so let’s put together a ticket for today’s excellent all-stakes Pick Four, which starts with Race 6, the Mineshaft Handicap.
This ticket resembles the Pick Three we offered up in today's Value Plays section of the website, starting with Race 7. Except with this ticket we're really going for the big payday, singliing our longshot pick of the day, the regally bred Flying Spur, in the Silverbulletday. To make the Pick Four both affordable and yet realistically cashable, you have to have a single somewhere so you can spread out in one leg. Of course, if you have a bigger bankroll than I do and you can use more horses, that's always a good thing. We've put together a $54 ticket, which places a lot of faith in the bloodlines of Flying Spur, but it also gives us nine chances in the Risen Star, a race where several contenders could step up, and also a race where a few of the top contenders aren't necessarily trying to win today. Instead they're looking to learn something and take a step forward os they can be in top shape for next month's Louisiana Derby, and perhaps even the first Saturday in May.
